In this paper, the evolution of the female condition within the imperial court is analyzed. In particular, the role of the Augusta is studied both in its function of procreating a legitimate son to the emperor, very often deified, and in the function of legitimizing an aspirant to attain imperial power also through marriage to the Augusta herself. In any case, as time progressed, the Augusta became a factor in the stability and well-being of her subjects in imperial propaganda.
