The expansion of digital markets is generating new doctrinal and regulatory challenges for competition law, as they present a series of characteristics that differentiate them from “traditional” markets. This raises the need to adapt some of the classic competition tools to the particularities of these sectors. In this regard, the European Commission has revised its methodology for relevant market definition, and the new Notice on the definition of the relevant market for the purposes of Union competition has been published on February 8th, 2024. This paper focuses on analysing the changes proposed in this document with respect to the original text adopted in 1997.

Abstract
The expansion of digital markets is generating new doctrinal and regulatory challenges for competition law, as they present a series of characteristics that differentiate them from “traditional” markets. This raises the need to adapt some of the classic competition tools to the particularities of these sectors. In this regard, the European Commission has revised its methodology for relevant market definition, and the new Notice on the definition of the relevant market for the purposes of Union competition has been published on February 8th, 2024. This paper focuses on analysing the changes proposed in this document with respect to the original text adopted in 1997.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
