The first excavation campaign at Ca' Nova di Albareto - Monte Chiaro (Albareto, PR) was carried out by the author, lecturer in Digital Archaeology at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, during the first two weeks of October 2024. The excavation campaign, limited to two weeks for logistical reasons, was severely hampered by adverse weather conditions. The site was investigated through the opening of a trench located about ten metres south of the protohistoric site identified and excavated between 2017 and 2019 following the laying of a section of gas pipeline by SNAM - Rete Gas, in an altimetrically higher position, and allowed the identification of diagnostic material generally dated to the Iron Age, as well as pebble remains associated with a probable structure. In the eastern part of the trench, several pebbles were brought to light, connected together to form the probable base of a dry masonry structure, with centimetre and pluricentimetre ceramic materials associated, through their fabric, with Iron Age ceramic production. To the west of the hypothesised structure, the levels investigated appear to be colluvial in nature, with several centimetre-sized ceramic fragments with strongly fluctuating edges. The combination of adverse weather conditions and the presence of the groundwater ade it impossible to carry out a stratigraphic study of the structures, which were nevertheless surveyed, or to collect archaeobotanical samples (for which a specialist had joined the research team). The discovery of a sanguisuga-type bronze fibula in a colluvial level with punctual comparisons in the 8th-6th century BC necropolises of the Po Valley is noteworthy. The discovery of layers in situ that can be dated to the Iron Age is of considerable importance, as Iron Age materials had already been reported when the site was discovered in 1985, but the levels investigated by the 2017-2019 emergency excavation were dated to the Bronze Age and the Iron Age materials came from colluvium levels.
