Abstract

It is widely demonstrated that youth literature is crucial in the development of teens’ gender identity and emotional and mental health, meaning that gender stereotypes in literature can deeply impact teen’s perceptions of what society considers to be gender appropriate behaviors and representations, restraining their freedom to express themselves. Moving from the persisting limited awareness in contemporary societies of the importance of positive gender education in kids’ identity development, and the lack of coordinated/systemic experiences at a EU level to promote gender-positive literature for teens with their active involvement, G-BOOK 3 builds on the very successful results of previous G-BOOK, focused on the creation of the 1st EU gender-positive bibliography for children (age 3-10), and G-BOOK 2, which expanded it (range 11-14), to address the need to tackle the last, missing 15-18-year-old segment of young readers, pursuing the following objectives: - fostering the transnational circulation of gender-positive teens’ literature at a EU level - raise awareness and engage the TG (15-18 yo) on gender-related topics through literature, while developing their social/emotional & creative skills using digital technology & social media. These objectives will be achieved through a set of tailored activities: - Finalization of the 1st EU Bibliography of gender-positive kids’ literature with works for 15-18 yo - Linguistic extension of the bibliography by including Finnish, Portuguese and Czech - Raising awareness & audience engagement activities in high schools, implementing a 2-year curricular path involving 10 schools from PPs countries, as well as on social media to reach the wider audience of EU teen readers: - 10 social and emotional workshops in high schools on gender-related themes - 10 co-creation workshops in high schools for the realization of the digital contents - 1 Audience Engagement Campaign carried out on social media at transnational and PPs' local level
