The 6G communication systems will be affordable, flexible, and scalable, aiming at providing seamless connectivity to reduce the digital divide, achieve accurate positioning performance, and higher sustainability to reduce its footprint on energy. To unleash such an advanced and efficient network, it is globally recognized that the 6G infrastructure will have the full integration of the NTN component into the terrestrial one at its core. Indeed, the 6G NTN can efficiently furnish connectivity both in densely populated areas and in rural zones as well as provide reliable mission critical services supporting a large amount of connections typical of mMTC applications. Focusing on IoT, this chapter aims to show the 3GPP standardization process for its integration into NTN and detail the different architectures identified in the standardization fora, with their advantages and shortcomings, and the peculiar satellite channel impairments.

Abstract
Focusing on IoT, this chapter aims to show the 3GPP standardization process for its integration into NTN and detail the different architectures identified in the standardization fora, with their advantages and shortcomings, and the peculiar satellite channel impairments.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
