In this introduction, we outline what we mean by ‘collective movements’, and how in particular they exceed a political framework that is organised around a common identity or a common territory. We argue that such movements are often precarious and temporary, but that they matter because they suggest new forms of organising politically, in the early 21st century. We also introduce readers to debates in International Political Sociology, and how the frameworks, narratives and interventions of this field of study help us conceptualise collective movements and emerging political spaces. We conclude by briefly outlining the chapters in this book.

Abstract
In this introduction, we outline what we mean by ‘collective movements’, and how in particular they exceed a political framework that is organised around a common identity or a common territory. We argue that such movements are often precarious and temporary, but that they matter because they suggest new forms of organising politically, in the early 21st century. We also introduce readers to debates in International Political Sociology, and how the frameworks, narratives and interventions of this field of study help us conceptualise collective movements and emerging political spaces. We conclude by briefly outlining the chapters in this book.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
