The relationship between atrial fibrillation and caffeine is somewhat complex. The effects of caffeine seem to suggest a proarrhythmic effect, which in reality occurs only in subjects with high sensitivity or following the ingestion of high doses of caffeine. Most population studies do not show a direct link between coffee and arrhythmia; on the contrary, there seem to be beneficial effects on health. It is necessary to explore some issues that remain obscure: the differences between women and men in the response to caffeine and the effects on young people of the high doses of caffeine contained in energy drinks.

Abstract
The relationship between atrial fibrillation and caffeine is somewhat complex. The effects of caffeine seem to suggest a proarrhythmic effect, which in reality occurs only in subjects with high sensitivity or following the ingestion of high doses of caffeine. Most population studies do not show a direct link between coffee and arrhythmia; on the contrary, there seem to be beneficial effects on health. It is necessary to explore some issues that remain obscure: the differences between women and men in the response to caffeine and the effects on young people of the high doses of caffeine contained in energy drinks.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
