The following article aims to illustrate the influence cast by the use of Pausanias’ Periegesis through several phases of the redefinition of the modern greek topography, as related to the shaping of a renewed hellenic cultural identity. Through the use of the GIS softwares, which can provide an innovative and systematic tool for the evaluation of the evolution and distribution of the reuse of classical toponyms, it is possible to highlight a meaningful parallelism between the ideal and definition of an ‘authentically’ greek landscape, elaborated by Pausanias in the II century A.D., and the redefinition of a ‘hellenic’ identity following the creation of the modern greek state.

Abstract
The following article aims to illustrate the influence cast by the use of Pausanias’ Periegesis through several phases of the redefinition of the modern greek topography, as related to the shaping of a renewed hellenic cultural identity. Through the use of the GIS softwares, which can provide an innovative and systematic tool for the evaluation of the evolution and distribution of the reuse of classical toponyms, it is possible to highlight a meaningful parallelism between the ideal and definition of an ‘authentically’ greek landscape, elaborated by Pausanias in the II century A.D., and the redefinition of a ‘hellenic’ identity following the creation of the modern greek state.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
