Abstract The Introduction provides the reader with a larger theoretical framework aimed to overcome the reductionism implicit in the mainstream approaches to the social life of things and human beings. Disregarding any radical subjectivistic drift as well as (of course) any technological determinism, the phenomenological approach does not underestimate the constraints of the world-of-things nor it claims for a totally determined social actor. Rather it conceives the process of culture creation as radically embedded in, and possible because of the human beings’ intentionality and the material resources available in the world people live in. This focus is the result of a collective reflection on mobile communication in everyday life. It has the ambition of investigating it phenomenon of mobile communication in everyday life overcoming the “subject-object” duality which still seems to force the researcher to choose: either she or he takes an agency-oriented perspective either he o she takes a structure-oriented perspective. The contributions are committed to rethink and empirically analyse the relationship between humans and technologies in terms of reflexivity, which is a mutual construction of meaning and reciprocal sense making. Something that is easier to state than to do.
