The chapter of the volume concerns the two following theses: artificial intelligence is not a science, and artificial intelligence is a rigorous part of an intertheoretical approach to every scientific theory, what I call the philosophy of teories. I try to argue such two theses by situating the epistemological and methodological principles of artificial intelligence research in the context of a reflection about the notion of theory and in that one of the brain-computer/mind-software metaphor.

Abstract

The chapter of the volume concerns the two following theses: artificial intelligence is not a science, and artificial intelligence is a rigorous part of an intertheoretical approach to every scientific theory, what I call the philosophy of teories. I try to argue such two theses by situating the epistemological and methodological principles of artificial intelligence research in the context of a reflection about the notion of theory and in that one of the brain-computer/mind-software metaphor.
