Glucose is degraded exclusively and characteristically by the fructose-6-phosphate (F6PPK-EC 4.1.2.22) shunt (see Bifidobacterium genus description) The fermentation products from glucose are acetic acid and L-(+)-lactic acid at the molar ratio of 2: 1. Dextran is fermented. Found in human dental caries and plaque. 16S rRNA and HSP60 gene sequence analyses showed that Parascardovia represented a new genus in the family Bifidobacteriaceae. The type and only species is Parascardovia denticolens. The mol % of G + C of the DNA is: 55 ± 1 (Tm).
