Detection and identification of explosives are included among the activities aimed at the protection of citizens against terrorism acts. Analytical methods based on luminescence phenomena can be applied for a sensitive detection of such compounds in complex matrices1. Previously we developed both a CL- ELISA and a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene) detection2 as well as a portable HRP/luminol indirect assay of the peroxide-based explosives TATP (Triacetone triperoxide) and HMTD (Hexamethylene triperoxide diamine)3. Analytical tools sensible and easy to use, even for on-site analysis, were obtained. The work here reported was finalised to verify the possibility to employ these assays also in the detection of the post-blast products of these explosives. The two TNT immunoassays were tested on post-blast debris of different materials (metal, plastic, cardboard, moquette) composing the targets placed around the site of a controlled detonation and on soil samples. Small amounts of residues were detected by the CL-ELISA on the materials of the closer targets and in the soil immediately around the explosion crater. The amounts of these residues were under the LFIA detection limit (1 µg mL-1). After the explosion by compression of TATP no residue was revealed by the CL assay.
