Glass cullet needs several treatments to be successfully recycled in the production of new glass, however these treatments generate waste in their turn. In this work, “matt wastes”, obtained by purification process of glass cullet coming from separated collection, have been milled and used as fine filler in formulations of mortar and concrete with self compacting characteristics. Mechanical and physical properties of these new building materials have been compared with those prepared with traditional calcareous filler. The obtained results are very promising and highlight “matt wastes” with fine grain size distribution as pozzolanic addition.

Abstract

Glass cullet needs several treatments to be successfully recycled in the production of new glass, however these treatments generate waste in their turn. In this work, “matt wastes”, obtained by purification process of glass cullet coming from separated collection, have been milled and used as fine filler in formulations of mortar and concrete with self compacting characteristics. Mechanical and physical properties of these new building materials have been compared with those prepared with traditional calcareous filler. The obtained results are very promising and highlight “matt wastes” with fine grain size distribution as pozzolanic addition.
