In this paper the use of industrial by-products coming from raw materials treatment for ceramic industry has been investigated as reinforcing particulate in sulfur mortars, given that also sulfur binder could be replaced by fully recycled sulfur. Indeed, mechanical properties, microstructure and durability of the obtained particulate composites with fully recycled components exhibited outstanding properties. Finally, as sulfur is easily melted, sulfur composites may be wholly recycled without any loss in their performances.

Abstract

In this paper the use of industrial by-products coming from raw materials treatment for ceramic industry has been investigated as reinforcing particulate in sulfur mortars, given that also sulfur binder could be replaced by fully recycled sulfur. Indeed, mechanical properties, microstructure and durability of the obtained particulate composites with fully recycled components exhibited outstanding properties. Finally, as sulfur is easily melted, sulfur composites may be wholly recycled without any loss in their performances.
