Fine powders obtained from vitrified incineration bottom ashes and glassy and ceramic residues from the treatments of separated waste collection, have been used as fine strengthening filler in particulate polymer composites. Moreover, the polymer composite fracture behavior has been improved by adding 1-5 wt% of glass fibers obtained by drawing vitrified bottom ashes. The microstructural, mechanical and electrical properties of these new materials have been studied and compared to those of reference samples prepared without any glassy addition.

Abstract

Fine powders obtained from vitrified incineration bottom ashes and glassy and ceramic residues from the treatments of separated waste collection, have been used as fine strengthening filler in particulate polymer composites. Moreover, the polymer composite fracture behavior has been improved by adding 1-5 wt% of glass fibers obtained by drawing vitrified bottom ashes. The microstructural, mechanical and electrical properties of these new materials have been studied and compared to those of reference samples prepared without any glassy addition.
