Meercv.Sakai) germinationwerestudiedusing 15N-labelledlysine(thecadaverineprecursor)and 15N-labelledcadaverine, bothunderlight/dark(12h/12h)andtotaldarkgerminatingconditions. 15N-cadaverineandnon-labelled polyaminesweresimultaneouslydetectedusingionsprayionizationemassspectrometry.Both 15N-cadaverineand 15N-lysineweretakenupbysoybean. 15N-lysinewastransportedtotheshootandroot and convertedinto 15N-cadaverine,whereasrelativelylittle 15N-cadaverinewasformedfrom 15N-lysine in thecotyledon.Theacropetaltranslocationof 15N-cadaverinefromthecotyledontotheshootseemed to predominateoverbasipetaltransporttotheroot.Althoughnoother 15N-derivatisedpolyamineswere found,supplyingexogenous 15N-lysineseemedtoindirectlyaffectthemetabolismof 14N putrescine, spermidineandspermine,whilenosignificanteffectwasdetectedaftersupplying 15N-cadaverine
