Abstract: the aim of this article is to analyse the relationship between Identity and Otherness in discourse with the help of the CFPP2000 database (http://cfpp2000.univ-paris3.fr/). This corpus allows us to examine how Parisians provide specific representations of their town during an interview, especially what is their relationship with their district. We intend to study the discursive categories issued from interviews by means of collective nouns first and by the analysis of how groups are referred to (auto-designations and nouns for ethnic groups) after. We underline that interactional aspects (interviewer-interviewee relationships), interdiscourse and social referent are crucial for the discursive co-construction and for the emerging of an acceptable common sense. As regards methods for the discourse analysis, we emphasise that quantitative and qualitative approaches are dual and complementary.
