Recent studies on the phyletic distribution of the habenular asymmetry in Vertebrates suggest that the right asymmetry is an ancient character in Agnatha and Ganoida while Amphibians and Reptiles inderwent a change from Chondrichthyes appears as a derivate character. Our observations show a very reduced asymmetry of the habenulae and of the fibers connecting them to the interpeduncular nucleus of the mesencephalus.
