IL DANTE DI OSIP MANDEL’ŠTAM TRA PROIEZIONI AUTOBIOGRAFICHE E INTUIZIONI DEL LETTORE

Osip Mandelstam’s "Conversation about Dante" (1933) is a unique text in Russian Dante Studies of the early 20th century. Indeed, not only does this essay fall short of the criteria of Soviet literary criticism, but it also challenges the image of Alighieri created by the pre-revolutionary Symbolist culture. The new portrayal of Dante proposed by Mandelstam, characterized as it is by a strong autobiographical component, concerns the Florentine poet’s relationship to society and the art of poetry. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the social and artistic identity of Mandelstam’s Dante, showing how the autobiographical projections that interweave in the "Conversation" result in deep insights into certain themes of the "Commedia".

La "Conversazione su Dante" di Osip Mandel’štam (1933) rappresenta un testo unico nel suo genere nel dantismo russo del primo Novecento. Il saggio, infatti, non solo non risponde ai criteri della critica letteraria sovietica, ma contesta anche l’immagine dell’Alighieri coniata dalla cultura simbolista prerivoluzionaria. Il nuovo ritratto di Dante, che Mandel’štam offre ai lettori e che ha una forte impronta autobiografica, riguarda il rapporto del poeta fiorentino con la società e con l’arte. Scopo del mio contributo è analizzare l’identità sociale e quella artistica del Dante mandel’štamiano mostrando come le proiezioni autobiografiche s’intreccino nella "Conversazione" a una profonda intuizione di alcuni motivi della "Commedia".
