Trace metal content of sludge from wastewater treatment plants is of interest as for their deposition as hazardous waste or further utilisation in agriculture or as raw material for biogas production. From the analytical point of view, the most sensible step is the extraction from the solid matrix. Hence, it’s important to find an appropriate method for the sample preparation with which a high trace metal recovery could be ensured. An experimental study has been applied for comparing a traditional open vessel method with microwave assisted digestion methods and for validating the applied methods with certified reference material. In the course of the experimental study the repeatability and the precision of the different analytical techniques were studied varying the applied acid mixture and the microwave programs (duration and voltage).
