The question of urban violence relative to young banlieusards (suburban inhabitants), has recently rekindled as a result of the 13th November 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, reviving the public debate and reopening a fundamental issue not sufficiently investigated: that of désintegration, that is to say the disintegration of the children of immigration. While touching this topic however, it is important not to generalize. Therefore, while contextualizing the French question, as well as the story of its immigration, some cautious comparative reflections ought to be made in order to avoid that the echoes of what is happening in the banlieues prepheries do not remain unheard, but instead serve as a warning and an incentive to adapt an intercultural approach towards future generations that otherwise might be tempted to join ISIS. The French situation helps us to understand that where ethnic and religious diversity become a reason for discrimination and exclusion, and where the subtle question of identity toghether with the lack of ideals are taking space, violence can find a highly fertile ground in which to sprout and explode even remote generations through ways of radicalization. Finally, it makes us aware of the danger of falling into the trap of prejudice and how important it is that we reject labels that stigmatize suburbs by bringing them into greater isolation. Keywords: suburbs, disintegration, violence, inter-cultural awakening, hope.
