Loanwords from Japan and China : Asian headwords in Italian dictionaries · This articles investigates lexical connections between Italian and two exotic languages, Chinese and Japanese, while analytically taking stock and examining the Japanese and Chinese words that are mentioned by the main Italian dictionaries ; an Addendum brings the quite plentiful entries of Eastern origin that are recorded in the dictionaries all together into a comprehensive list. The results of this survey remarkably vary, depending on the repertoire : some choices are found to be remarkably inconsistent in the reception of the entries, the graphic translation of the loanwords, the dating (which refers to the time a foreignism is poured into our language), or the etymology (and, more generally, information about the borrowing process). The reasons for such variation are not clear nor arguable from the lexicographers’ general avowed operating and methodological criteria : depending on the circumstance, they might be due to using different underlying sources, to a different understanding of interference with the Italian language system, or other, more specific reasons, which can be tracked down on a case-by-case basis.
L’articolo analizza il contatto lessicale tra l’italiano e due lingue esotiche, cinese e giapponese, censendo analiticamente ed esaminando i nipponismi e i sinismi presenti nei maggiori vocabolari dell’uso della nostra lingua ; un’Appendice riunifica in un elenco complessivo le non poche voci di matrice orientale attestate nei vocabolari. I risultati della ricerca variano notevolmente da repertorio a repertorio: ne emergono scelte spesso significativamente disomogenee in fatto di accoglimento della voce, resa grafica dei prestiti, datazione (riferita al momento di travaso del forestierismo nella nostra lingua), etimologia (e, più in generale, informazioni riguardanti la trafila del prestito). Le ragioni della variazione non sono esplicite né desumibili dai criteri operativi e metodologici generali dichiarati dai lessicografi : potrebbero dipendere, di volta in volta, dal ricorso a fonti retrostanti diversificate, da differenti valutazioni dei fenomeni di interferenza nel sistema linguistico italiano o da altre più specifiche ragioni, Ricostruibili caso per caso.
