Pierpaolo Ascari and Stefano Velotti critically discuss Gilles Lipovetsky and Jean Serroy’s text L’esthétisation du monde: Vivre à l’âge du capitalisme artiste. According to Ascari, the two authors describe the aestheticization of the world as a process of removing the role that social activity and communitarian ties still play at the origin of new forms of «artistic» creation of value. Yet, the theoretical model to which they refer – the immaterial of André Gorz – would allow for a more fitting analysis within a dialectical perspective. Velotti criticizes the two authors for their lack of conceptual precision and the rhetorical use of catchphrases, as well as for the partial, First-World-based diagnosis of contemporary capitalism.

Abstract
Pierpaolo Ascari and Stefano Velotti critically discuss Gilles Lipovetsky and Jean Serroy’s text L’esthétisation du monde: Vivre à l’âge du capitalisme artiste. According to Ascari, the two authors describe the aestheticization of the world as a process of removing the role that social activity and communitarian ties still play at the origin of new forms of «artistic» creation of value. Yet, the theoretical model to which they refer – the immaterial of André Gorz – would allow for a more fitting analysis within a dialectical perspective. Velotti criticizes the two authors for their lack of conceptual precision and the rhetorical use of catchphrases, as well as for the partial, First-World-based diagnosis of contemporary capitalism.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
