Article 27 – which is analogous to Article 37 referring to electronic seals – regulates electronic signatures in online public services. According to paragraphs 1 and 2, Member States are obliged to recognise electronic signatures that guarantee an equivalent or higher level of reliability with respect to the type requested, provided that they comply with certain formats (or that they use specific validation methods in case of different formats) as provided in Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/1506. Finally, paragraph 4 empowers the Commission to establish reference numbers of standards for advanced electronic signatures. Compliance with standards enjoys the presumption of conformity with the requirements of advanced electronic signatures pursuant to paragraphs 1 and 2 and to Article 26.
