Wie hängen Komik und romantische Ironie zusammen? Orientierungsverlust mit Schlegel, Iser und Tiecks „Rotkäppchen“

Research has some difficulties in explaining how Schlegel's concept of 'irony' concept, which Schlegel saw primarily implemented in literature, actually figures in texts. The most common, though controversial, translation is to convey "irony" in texts with "break of illusion". I propose a broader definition by examining analogies with the logical form of Wolfgang Iser's concept of ‘comicality". After these formal point, I apply the new defintion to interpret Ludwig Tieck’s play ‘Life and Death of Little Red Riding Hood’. So far, Tieck's piece has found little resonance in research, especially because of its difficult classifiability. The analogies, I highlight, allow for important mechanisms of romantic comic literature to be discussed under the paradigm of irony and provide a viable approach to explain early german romanticism's preference for comedy and the special nature of romantic comedy.
