Abstract

Conventional wisdom considers a crime hotspot as a series of statistical possibilities which produce disorder. But a crime hotspot is also a social problem without a clear definition. In fact, crime theories underline a firm connection between people's habits and unsafe events data. Furthermore, the digital society produces data and information that could help both to predict crime and to increase the risk of victimization. For this reason, predictive crime mapping and IT software could support the future of crime hotspot analysis and related policies.
