Bullfights and bullfighting festivals are a fundamental part of Spanish cultural heritage, as well as an important economic sector throughout the territory. However, recent regional tensions have jeopardized the survival of this tradition in some areas of the Iberian Peninsula. This trend has been opposed by the state legislator who declares bullfighting cultural heritage with Law 18/2013, in an attempt to stabilize discipline and avoid cultural schisms. This evolution is of particular interest since it is based on complex issues such as the lack of availability of culture and the cross-cutting impact of the cultural sector, issues addressed by the current contribution, which tracks the most prominent steps of the debate related to the world of tauromachy. In that debate the Constitutional Court intervened with the sentences of October 20, 2016 and December 13, 2018. The same debate has also been proposed in some Latin American countries, such as Peru and Columbia, and similarly in Italy regarding horse racing
