The Plan for the Conservation of the Historical Centre of Bologna: a double Legacy

In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Plan for the Historical Centre of Bologna, it seems urgent to reflect on the legacy of its planning approach compared to the current challenges. The goal is to emphasize its double legacy: on the one hand the material one, still visible in the contemporary historical center, its stratifications and spatial configurations, physical testimonies of specific planning principles. On the other, the methodological legacy of the planning approach that goes beyond tools and procedures and includes the narration and re-production following the experience over time. The challenge is to update and translate these two legacies in the contemporary city, taking into account the conflict between global effects and local identities.
