This article examines the interaction between public international law (namely, the law of treaties) and the supranational «Exit Clause» enshrined in Article 50 TEU with a view to (a) carrying out a critical analysis of the most relevant legal issues relating to the EU withdrawal machinery, and (b) contributing to a general reflection on the process of withdrawing from international organizations. To this end, the analysis is focused on the fundamental stages of Article 50 procedure: the withdrawal decision, notification and revocation of that decision, negotiations, conclusion and entry into force of a withdrawal agreement; the no-deal exit. The analysis is concluded by some general comments on the main findings.
