The paper deals with ther first volume of Carlo Denina's Brandenburgische Briefe, a work available both in the original Italian version and in its German translation. First of all, the paper analyses the process of cultural mediation between Germany and Italy carried out by Denina in the last decades of the eighteenth century. Then, it considers the German translation. The paper aims to show that the author's intention to create a cultural transfer overlaps with the essentially political aim of the translator, August Rode.
