Abstract

The survey technology with laser instruments is today more and more established and widespread even at the level of small professional teams. Hand in hand with the introduction of increasingly compact, lightweight and highly autonomous instruments, software has been developed to receive data from multiple laser sources of different manufacturers, with different acquisition formats, combining point clouds, both structured and unstructured, also coming from photographic surveys, taken in terrestrial or aerial mode (also via drones). A simplification and automation of the various data processing steps has allowed it to be used by a more general user, not strictly specialized. The article deals with the issue of the reuse of old laser scans, many years after their execution, with new software to allow a new and wider dissemination. As a case study, the one of the Insula del Centenario in Pompeii is presented.
