This document presents the talk for the keynote lecture held at the PGSRET2018 Conference. The focus of this talk is on the best usage of measurement technologies and related analyses or modelling to improve the understanding of the loading phenomena and of the structural response of the machine through all the phases of its life, for an advanced knowledge- based design, manufacturing and service. Among the vibration- related techniques, a strong emphasis is put on the emerging full field optical measurements that give unprecedented insight, thanks to the tight spatial resolution, on the surface distribution of experimental quantities of the dynamically loaded parts.
