After the Great War, the spread of corporatist laws and institutions, flourishing mostly in the 1930s, was marked by a transnational hybridization of projects and experiences. Within this dynamics, the Italian corporatist State became a model for many right wing intellectuals and politicians not only in Europe, but also in the American continent. This chapter deals with the transatlantic influence of the Fascist experiment, focusing on three issues: (1) the building of a new authoritarian and state-centric corporatism in Mussolini’s Italy and the reasons of its transnational fame; (2) the debate on this political option in New Deal’s United States; and (3) the echo of the Fascist example in Latin America and its adaptation by certain right-wing ideologues.
