We have tried to show that in the field of universal quantification Latin is by no means more ambiguous than modern languages which have the article. This is due to its lexical richness which contributes to non-ambiguous readings thanks to differentiated universal quantifiers, thanks to the various forms of free-choice, free relatives and negative polarity indefinites and, finally, thanks to a rich and complex system of binary quantification.

Abstract

We have tried to show that in the field of universal quantification Latin is by no means more ambiguous than modern languages which have the article. This is due to its lexical richness which contributes to non-ambiguous readings thanks to differentiated universal quantifiers, thanks to the various forms of free-choice, free relatives and negative polarity indefinites and, finally, thanks to a rich and complex system of binary quantification.
