The Bible held in the library of the Collegio di Spagna in Bologna (MS 2) is the earliest extant Bolognese example of an illuminated scholastic Bible from the fourteenth century after the outstanding masterpieces of the previous century. Firstly, the article examines the decoration of the Bible in its global structure to appraise continuities with and differences from the lavishly illuminated Bible of the thirteenth century. Furthermore, the author gives new consideration to the artists who accomplished the illumination of the Bible. In conclusion, the paper shows how some iconographic choices in the Bible can support the thesis that the manuscript was commissioned by the great canonist Giovanni d’Andrea.

Furthermore, the author gives new consideration to the artists who accomplished the illumination of the Bible. In conclusion, the paper shows how some iconographic choices in the Bible can support the thesis that the manuscript was commissioned by the great canonist Giovanni d’Andrea.
