In this article the author examines the erotic images present in the narrative poems (mathnavi) of Ferdowsi, Gorgani, Nezami and Khwaju of Kerman, four of the most well-known authors of classical Persian literature, focusing especially on verses relative to the physical conjunction between lovers. After some general considerations on the language of eros in the medieval Persian mathnavi, the author lists and comments on a number of examples drawn from the poems of these four authors, dwelling with a comparative approach on the most recurring images and those specific to each author.
