Total phytosterols content was determined in the hexaploid wheat spp. Triticum aestivum (soft wheat) and T. spelta (spelt) and the tetraploid wheat spp. T. durum (durum wheat) and T. dicoccon (emmer wheat). Results showed significant quantitative differences between phytosterols content of tetraploid and hexaploid wheat species, and confirms the genetic affinity of T. aestivum with T. spelta and that of T. durum with T. dicoccon.
