La chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta a Vitoio (LU): documentazione per la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale in Garfagnana; The church of Santa Maria Assunta in Vitoio (LU): documentation for the enhancement of the architectural heritage in Garfagnana

In Garfagnana there is an important artistic and architectural heritage that, in complete synergy with the natural landscape, represents a significant evidence of historical and cultural identity. The minor nature of the monuments cannot assure an adequate flow of tourism and they risk being abandoned for lack of funds. This research is part of a wider study on the heritage of the valley aimed at enhancing every expression of local architecture. The first step is therefore the knowledge of these works of art with in-depth studies on the various aspects of their development over the centuries. The case study is the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Vitoio (LU), a small ecclesiastic building dating back to the end of the eighth century AD. A survey campaign has been carried out on the whole building using digital photo-modelling, in order to carefully document the state of preservation of the external masonry walls and to obtain highly descriptive representations for the study of the various evolutionary stages.
