This work aims at analyzing the geometrical models of a particular vault typology with planimetric star-shape, that evolved from the family of cross vaults. This roofing, typical of southern Italy, has been developed since the fifteenth century, having its maximum expansion in the seventeenth century and broadening out from the original area of interest towards the neighboring regions. Starting from previous studies carried out by researchers and examining the various theories proposed for the formal genesis of the model and its construction technique, the study focuses in particular on the building methodologies and geometric references used for the design and proportioning of these vaults, approaching the subject from a conceptual point of view and adapting the theoretical idea to the creation of the constructed object. These vaulted systems are analyzed from a geometric point of view, thanks to virtual models created from the theoretical forms, offering also the analysis of a real example by an Italian ecclesiastical architecture. In conclusion providing a formal comparison with similar models existing in Valencia, that even if sharing the same planimetric drawing, they offer a different constructive level due to the more advanced knowledge in the art of stone cutting, still partially practical in the corresponding Italian works.
