Grotta del Clusantin is a site specialized in the hunting and butchering of marmots 14ka Cal B.P. during one of the first phases of the human peopling of the Eastern Italian Alps during the Late Glacial. This small cave opens near the top of the topographic surface at a 520 m. of altitude on the Pradis plateau, a physiographic unit on the Carnic Prealps surronded from limestone peacks at 1200-1400 m. a.s.l. The cave setting and the sedimentological features of the anthropogenic units, make the cave entrance a place conditioned from the space of the sheltered zone and adapt to host a low number of hunters. Our contribution aims to present the results of the archaeozoological study carried out on the middle and small mammal assemblage, mostly represented by Marmota marmota of different age classes and other subordinated taxa referable to ungulates and carnivores. Once various traces of anthropic actions have been revealed on the ungulate bones and checked the absence of sin- and e post-depositional animal modifications, the taphonomic analysis focused on the marmot remains, which show several cut-marks. The spatial distribution and the scatter of the humanly modified bones provide evidence of exclusive human exploitation.
