Recent studies have shown that language is a constitutive moment of Hegel’s thought. Following this line of thinking, we wish to illustrate how language is tied by its duplicity to the constellation of tragedy and in particular to the notion of destiny in Hegel's work of 1807. The paper seeks to interpret the linguistic shape of destiny and the divine that is involved in the transition from tragedy to comedy, in order to read in it a certain prefiguration and one possible meaning of the transition from Vorstellung to Darstellung, i.e. the destiny of representation.

Abstract

Recent studies have shown that language is a constitutive moment of Hegel’s thought. Following this line of thinking, we wish to illustrate how language is tied by its duplicity to the constellation of tragedy and in particular to the notion of destiny in Hegel's work of 1807. The paper seeks to interpret the linguistic shape of destiny and the divine that is involved in the transition from tragedy to comedy, in order to read in it a certain prefiguration and one possible meaning of the transition from Vorstellung to Darstellung, i.e. the destiny of representation.
