The Santarelli Kindergarten in Forlì and the Casa del Fascio in Predappio are two architectures of the 1930s built in Romagna during the period of the Fascist regime. Beyond their chronological factor, they are comparable for many reasons: the first, a building dedicated to the childhood education, distances itself from traditional architecture with more fear; the second, a monumental icon of the regime realised in a peripheral town, pursues modernity with more perseverance. The paper intends to make a comparison between the construction systems of the two buildings, linked by the use – not yet completely rationalised – of the reinforced concrete that, although was about to become an ordinary construction technique, still tried refuge in the tradition. The two architectures are symbol of a technological experimentation that highlights frailties and construction limits of the attempt to project the image of their own local reality in line with the national architecture.
