The chapter delineates the major characteristics and dynamics of the land reform programme in post-aparthedi South Africa. After describing the structure and the pillars of the programme, the chapter discusses international and local debate on the programme, the major achievements of the programme and the challenges the programme has to face in the nearest future, in order to merge redistributive aims with priorities of economic development of the agricultural sector in South Africa.
