The basic assumption from which we start in this article is that connecting leadership practices with teaching and learning is essential to improve schools, but this cannot realistically take place with an overload of educational leadership on the head teacher alone. The collection of data on teachers desi- gnated as figures of distributed leadership in 46 schools in the Autonomous Province of Trento has made it possible to determine the quantitative effects of the head teacher’s and teachers’ leadership on the commitment to improve. The paper shows that the involvement of teachers in exercising educational leadership acts as “linking network” between managerial activity and teaching-learning processes, con- tributing to capacity building for continuous improvement in schools.
