The aim of this work is the prediction of fatigue crack growth for an orthotropic plate under biaxial load, having a crack aligned with one of the directions of elastic symmetry of the body. To this end the model proposed by Sih and Barthelemy is adopted, that allows to include the dependence of the crack propagation on both the stress amplitued and the mean stress level. Referring to an orthotropic material, the problem of fatigue crack growth is studied for different values of the biaxial load parameter and of the crack inclination angle.

Abstract

The aim of this work is the prediction of fatigue crack growth for an orthotropic plate under biaxial load, having a crack aligned with one of the directions of elastic symmetry of the body. To this end the model proposed by Sih and Barthelemy is adopted, that allows to include the dependence of the crack propagation on both the stress amplitued and the mean stress level. Referring to an orthotropic material, the problem of fatigue crack growth is studied for different values of the biaxial load parameter and of the crack inclination angle.
