The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between leadership behaviors and objective performance in relation to the assumptions of the Multidimensional Model of Leadership. Fifty-nine volley players and fifty-eight soccer players from the north of Italy completed the Leadership Scale for Sports. Athletes' coaches (N = 12) completed the self-perceived version of the Leadership Scale for Sports. By using multilevel techniques, it was found that the congruency hypothesis was supported for the social support dimension of the value congruence and the training and instruction dimension of the perceptual congruence. The discrepancy hypothesis was supported for the autocratic behavior and the social support dimensions of perceptual discrepancy.
