Abstract

A current topic in supramolecular chemistry subject to intensive research and rapid expansion is the design of synthetic nanomachines that are able to carry out movements at the molecular and supramolecular scale triggered by external stimuli. Artificial nanomachines have been realized on the laboratory scale, and utilization of such systems to construct responsive materials and surfaces, control catalytic processes, and develop test structures for information storage devices and drug delivery has been investigated.
