The Greek word mystes "initiated" is etimologically connected to the verb muo, "to close, be shut" (in particular of the eyes); this patent observation offers a good opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the initiation's ceremonies and on the relation between light and darkness. In this framework, the present article aims to focus on few central aspects of the ancient ritual esoteric traditions.
