The main objective of this paper is to analyse the validity and functionality of a series of concepts which have been discussed within the theoretical framework known as Descriptive Translation Studies and to apply them to the field of audiovisual translation. In recent years, these concepts have enjoyed a wide success within research projects on audiovisual translation. However, since they were conceived mainly for literature and literary translation, they could be perceived as somewhat reductive.
