Abstract

The farinfraredspectrumofHCOOHwasrecordedatahighresolution(0.0009cm1) and longpathlength(72m)atthefar-infraredbeamline,CanadianLightSource.Spectra wererecordedintheregion62–300cm1, showingtransitionsfromthe trans-isomer. Groundstaterotationaltransitionswith Ka up to30,wereidentifiedupto175cm1, extendingtheobservationreportedintheliterature.Atotalof3321transitionswere assignedandfittedtogetherwithprevious(4149)publisheddata.Animprovedsetof rotationalparameterswasobtainedadoptingthesymmetrictop(A)reductionofthe rotationalHamiltonianinthe Ir representation.Thenewlymeasuredfarinfrared transitionsallowedthedeterminationofalldiagonalandoffdiagonal8thorder parameters L and ofsomeofthediagonal10thorderparameters P.
